Petro de Luanda, the 17-time Angolan Premier League champions, are preparing to leave a mark in the African Football League, and they start off their campaign against Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.
One of the players who has been key for Petro and is expected to play and equally grand role in their quest for glory is Brazilian Tiago Lima Leal, or more commonly known as Tiago Azulao.
The 35-year old veteran is the skipper of the Angolan giants, and has been a key member of the squad since he joined in 2016. He has had two different stints at the club, leaving in 2019 to join Cypriot side Olympiacos Nicosia, before returning in 2020.
In the 2021-22 season, he was the top scorer of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League netting six times, with Petro reaching the semi-finals, where they lost 4-2 to Wydad Athletic.
In the Angolan Girabola last season, he scored 16 goals in 26 appearances leading them to the Premier League title.
The Brazilian star is not only a vital component of the side’s forward line, but also provides leadership and calm in a hugely talented squad.
The Brazilian hopes to continue sprinkling some of the Samba stardust on the team, in their ambition to lift the maiden AFL crown.
