Thanks to a goal from Mamelodi Sundowns striker, South Africa were able to draw 1-1 in a friendly match against Ivory Coast, the host country of the next Africa Cup of Nations, on Tuesday night at the Korhogo Stadium.
Six Mamelodi Sundowns players were in Bafana-Bafana’s starting XI for Tuesday night’s friendly against Ivory Coast at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo. They are goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, defenders Khuliso Mudau, Aubrey Modiba and Mothobi Mvala, midfielder Teboho Mokoema and striker Themba Zwane.
It was the latter who opened the scoring in the9th minute of the game. A goal that gave South Africa the lead until the66th minute and the equalizer of Sébastien Haller. The 7th member of the imposing “Brazilian” colony present at this grouping, Grant Kekana came on in the87th minute in place of Khuliso Mudau.
It was a great performance for Hugo Broos’s team as they had been held to a barren draw on by Eswatini. At the same time, South Africa also got the opportunity to see the pitch they will play at the next Africa Cup of Nations, as Bafana-Bafana will be in Group E based in Korhogo, along with Tunisia, Mali and Namibia.
