Simba SC, regarded as one of the strongest teams in the East African region, will be looking to perform exceptionally well in their debut at the African Football League (AFL) despite being drawn against a tough Al Ahly, the 11-time African champions.

But, Wekundu wa Msimbazi, as they are affectionately referred in Tanzania and beyond, have enough arrows in their quiver to have a shot at downing the Egyptian Red Devils.

One of the players who has been at the centre of Simba’s performance over the last few years is creative midfielder Clatous Chota Choma, or more commonly christened ‘Triple C’.

The Zambian international has been the creative brains in Simba’s engine room and has had two different stints with the Dar es Salaam based club.

Chama played in his native Zambia for Zesco United and Lusaka Dynamos before making his first sojourn to Simba in 2018. He played there for three seasons, his performances attracting the interest of Moroccan side RS Berkane, who signed him for one season, before making the journey back to Simba in 2022.

At Simba, he immediately slotted back into the starting 11, making and creating goals helping them to reach the quarter finals of last season’s TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, where they lost to eventual finalists Wydad AC.

Overall in 45 Champions League matches, he has been directly involved in 21 goals for Simba and Zesco, scoring 15 and creating six more.

In coach Robert Oliveira’s set up, Chama has proved to be a key figure, and his experience will once again be up for count when they take on their debut in the AFL.
